I've been thinking about this for around 7 months now, which is way too much; Munkres seems like the "typical" introduction to topology book (kind of like how Griffiths is the "typical" E&M text), and various people (from the reviews over at Amazon) make it seem like it is an undergraduate level text.
Topology. The mathematical study of shapes and topological spaces, topology is one of the major branches of mathematics. We publish a variety of introductory texts as well as studies of the many subfields: general topology, algebraic topology, differential topology, geometric topology, combinatorial topology, knot theory, and more. Books shelved as topology: Topology by James R. Munkres, Algebraic Topology by Allen Hatcher, Geometry, Topology and Physics by M. Nakahara, Euler's Gem.

Overall this introduction to topology remains more than just an introduction and leaves you with a thorough if not in-depth understanding. Cons - the dover series book quality may be slightly low and i had some of the pages tear on me while reading the by: Introductory Topology:Exercises and Solutions Mohammed Hichem Mortad.

Mathematics – Introduction to Topology Winter What is this. This is a collection of topology notes compiled by Math topology students at the University of Michigan in the Winter semester.
Introductory topics of point-set and algebraic topology are covered in a series of five chapters. Also, another great introductory book is Munkres, Topology. On graduate level (non-introductory books) are Kelley and Dugunji (or Dugundji?).
Munkres said when he started writing his Topology, there wasn't anything accessible on undergrad level, and both Kelley and Dugunji wasn't really undergrad books. Munkres for general topology, Hatcher for algebraic topology, and Milnor for differential topology if you’re into that sort of thing.
Introduction to Topology by Renzo Cavalieri. This is a collection of topology notes compiled by Math topology students at the University of Michigan in the Winter semester. Introductory topics of point-set and algebraic topology are covered in a series of five chapters.
Basic Point-Set Topology 3 means that f(x) is not in the other hand, x0 was in f −1(O) so f(x 0) is in O was assumed to be open, there is an interval (c,d) about f(x0) that is contained in points f(x) that are not in O are therefore not in (c,d) so they remain at least a fixed positive distance from f(x0).To summarize: there are pointsFile Size: KB.

A student well-versed in the notions of set theory and metric spaces should find this an appropriate introductory resource for topology. Additionally, the book provides a very nice and conveniently compact reference for the standard topics of general topology .” (Keith Jones, MAA Reviews, June, ).

I have tried very hard to keep the price of the paperback. In mathematics, general topology is the branch of topology that deals with the basic set-theoretic definitions and constructions used in topology. It is the foundation of most other branches of topology, including differential topology, geometric topology, and algebraic r name for general topology is point-set topology.

So, someone recommended the book General Topology by Kelley. So, I bought it because of the recommendation and because it happened to be dirt cheap for a new copy on Amazon.
When I read it, I had had some exposure to the topology of the real line, so I was at least familiar with stuff like open sets (though only on the real line and R^n). Read "Introductory Topology Exercises and Solutions" by Mohammed Hichem Mortad available from Rakuten Kobo.

The creation of algebraic topology is a major accomplishment of 20th-century mathematics. The goal of this book is to show how geometric and algebraic ideas met and grew together into an important branch of mathematics in the recent past.
The book also conveys the fun and adventure that can be part of a mathematical investigation. Combinatorial topology has a wealth of applications, many of.Overrated and outdated. Truth be told, this is more of an advanced analysis book than a Topology book, since that subject began with Poincare's Analysis Situs (which introduced (in a sense) and dealt with the two functors: homology and homotopy).
The only point of such a basic, point-set topology textbook is to get you to the point where you can work through an (Algebraic) Topology text at the /5(27).This course introduces topology, covering topics fundamental to modern analysis and geometry.
It also deals with subjects like topological spaces and continuous functions, connectedness, compactness, separation axioms, and selected further topics such as function spaces, metrization theorems, embedding theorems and the fundamental group.
